1. Enrol & onboard

   A short on-boarding call walks you through study tips and placement planning. Hard-copy folders ship the same day and your online portal opens instantly.

2. Study to a family-friendly rhythm

   The Certificate needs ≈ 225 study hours. At 5–6 hrs a week you finish in 9–10 months; add hours to finish sooner (8 hrs ≈ 7–8 months). You still have a full 12 months of tutor access if life gets busy.

3. Blend placement with twin formats

   Spend just one day a week in class gathering evidence while you learn from both printed folders and an online portal packed with videos, mini-quizzes and templates.

4. Ask for help—real humans reply

   Email your tutor any time, call the weekday phone team for quick fixes, and benefit from a monthly progress check-in to keep momentum.

5. Learn → apply → submit

   Work through 11 units. After each unit you email an assignment; update and re-submit until perfect. Build a classroom evidence portfolio signed by your teacher.

6. Celebrate—no exams

   When assignments and portfolio are approved, we register results with NCFE CACHE and send your digital plus hard-copy Level 2 Certificate.

7. Step into class—or upgrade

   Move straight into Level 2 TA roles, supported by our careers team with CV polish, interview coaching and vacancy alerts. Ready for more? Upgrade to the Level 3 Certificate with credit-transfer guidance.

Unit 1: Understand schools and colleges as organisations

In this unit students will cover:

• Know the different types of schools and colleges in the education sector
• Understand the organisation of schools and colleges in terms of roles and responsibilities
• Understand how schools and colleges uphold their aims and values.
• Know about the range and purpose of school and college policies and procedures.

Unit 2: Understand children and young people's development

In this unit students will learn:

• Understand significant stages of development for children and young people from birth to 19 years of age
• Understand the kinds of influences that affect children and young people’s development.
• Understand the potential effects of transitions on children and young people’s development
• Understand child protection procedures
• Know about current policies and procedures for confidentiality and sharing information, including data protection

Unit 3: Safeguarding Children and Young People

In this unit students will cover:

• Legislative guidelines, policies and procedures for safeguarding the welfare of children and young people including e-safety
• What to do when children or young people are ill or injured, including emergency procedures
• How to respond to evidence or concerns that a child or young person has been abused, harmed or bullied

Unit 4: Equality, diversion and inclusion in a learning environment for children

In this unit students will cover:

• The importance of promoting equality and diversity in working with children and young people
• The impact of prejudice and discrimination on children and young people
• The inclusion and inclusive practices in working with children and young people

Unit 5: Maintain relationships with children and young people

In this unit students will cover:

• Understand effective communication with children and young people.
• Understand positive relationships with children and young people
• Be able to build and maintain professional relationships with children and young people and others in a learning environment

Unit 6: Support the health and safety of children and young people

In this unit students will cover:

• Understand health and safety legislation in a learning environment
• Be able to contribute to health and safety in a learning environment.

Unit 7: Support positive behaviour in a learning environment for children and young people

In this unit students will cover:

• Understand policies and procedures for promoting children and young people’s positive behaviour in a learning environment.
• Be able to support positive behaviour.
• Be able to respond to inappropriate behaviour

Unit 8: Contribute to teamwork in a learning environment

In this unit students will cover:

• Understand teamwork in a learning environment.
• Be able to contribute to teamwork.
• Be able to support the work of the team

Unit 9: Understand children and young people's play and leisure

In this unit students will cover:

• Understand the nature and importance of play and leisure.
• Understand own role in relation to play, leisure and extra-curricular activities

Unit 10: Promote an effective learning environment

In this unit students will cover:

• Be able to support the teacher in planning learning activities.
• Be able to support learning activities.
• Be able to monitor children and young people’s participation and progress.
• Be able to support the evaluation of learning activities.

Unit 11: Provide displays in a learning environment

In this unit students will cover:

• Be able to plan displays for a learning environment.
• Be able to display information.

This course provides successful students with a qualification from NCFE CACHE, regulated by Ofqual. NCFE CACHE is an Awarding Organisation recognised by the Office of Qualifications and Examinations Regulation (Ofqual) in England and by the Welsh Government.

This is a competence based qualification suitable for all roles in school, including site staff, administrators etc as well as those who work directly with children and young people. It seeks to develop the knowledge and understanding that all those working in a school setting will need and covers areas such as safeguarding, communication and understanding the school context.
